Whispers Of Betrayal (Anastasia and Alastor)

Chapter 145

Chapter 145

“Grandma, drink some water.” Alastor poured a glass of warm water for his grandma.

Actually, Alastor could tell that his grandmother had something to advise him.

“Alastor, I don’t have much time left,” Andrea said calmly.

“Grandma, please don’t say that…” Alastor lowered his head, trying to hold back his emotions.

“You grew up with me and your grandpa. The proudest thing in my life is to nurture you and your father,” Andrea said, taking Alastor’s hand. “But your grandfather and I failed to set a good example for you. Our relationship had never been great, and your father is not a good father, nor a good husband as well. It’s unfortunate that no one has taught you how to be a good husband.”

Alastor remained silent.

Andrea knew Alastor was not good at expressing himself and tended to keep everything in his heart.

When Alastor was a kid, he didn’t have parents by his side like other children.

When other children got bullied, they had their fathers to support them, but Alastor could only rely on himself.

He had always been indifferent to emotions and had never invested too much in them.

During puberty, while other children were in love, Alastor was always alone.

At that time, Andrea even persuaded him to pursue a relationship if he managed to find a girl who suited him.

Alastor listened to her and tried to fall in love with a girl.

However, he did not know what was love.

Throughout the relationship, he felt numb and was unwilling to invest too much emotion in it.

He once said that the best way to avoid losing something was to deny himself the opportunity to have it because he felt that as long as he didn’t have it, he would never lose it.

Such a mindset also led Alastor to not know how to cherish something he had.

“I fear that you may only realize the value of something when it’s too late, leading to a lifetime of regret.” Andrea held Alastor’s hand tightly and spoke with emotion. “The ones I worry about the most are you and Annie.”

“Grandma… Today is a day of celebration as you have regained your health.” Alastor mustered the strength to conceal the ache in his heart.

“And Annie is a good woman. After living for so many years, I can better judge one’s personality than you. You must believe me,” Andrea reminded Alastor once again.

However, Alastor made no comment about it.

He felt that Anastasia was not as great as Andrea thought, but he didn’t want to upset his grandmother.

“In a marital relationship, the utmost importance lies in mutual trust.” Andrea glanced at Anastasia, who was bustling in the kitchen. “If you find it challenging to place complete trust in her, then refrain from restraining her.”

“Grandma, did Anastasia tell you something?” Alastor frowned, sensing that his grandma wanted to persuade him to let go of Anastasia.

“Has Anastasia resorted to seeking Grandma’s help for the divorce? It seems she is willing to use any means for the sake of getting a divorce and Jason,” thought Alastor.

“You didn’t listen to a single word I just said.” Andrea sighed. “Alastor, don’t do anything you will regret for the rest of your life.”

Alastor merely clenched his hands tightly and said nothing.

“Do you love Annie?” Andrea asked.

Alastor did not give a response as well.

As a matter of fact, he did not know whether he loved her or not.

He was well aware that he resented her for scheming against him and was deeply upset that she did not love him, but he did not know if those feelings were related to love.

“If you don’t love her, let her go.” Andrea sighed and kept shaking her head.

No one could truly teach others about love.

It was through personal experiences and the loss of one’s love that he could finally understand what love truly meant.

However, as a norm in life, by the time everything finally made sense to him, that would already be too late.

“When your grandfather and I divorced, he expressed happiness, as if a burden had been lifted from his heart, and he spoke of wanting to pursue me again and be together. Unfortunately, he never got that chance as he passed away early.” Andrea’s voice was hoarse when she spoke.

“Don’t do something you’ll regret deeply. When you finally wake up to your mistake, you will realize it’s already too late.” In life, there were some individuals and precious things that, once lost, became irretrievable, leaving an eternal void.

Once they slipped away, they could never be reclaimed.

“I understand, Grandma,” said Alastor reassuringly, trying to comfort Andrea. He then assisted her to the dining table. Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.

Later that night, the three of them remained silent.

None of them took the initiative to speak.

“Grandma Andrea, I can’t stay with you tonight. Since Alastor is here, I have to go back. There is a young man waiting for me at home,” Anastasia explained. She was worried about Jason.
