Chapter 831 A New Mission
Chapter 831 A New Mission
Whitney kept quiet as she wasn’t sure.
The sound of Charles’ footsteps gradually faded into the distance. She stepped forward and took Jasmine’s arm. “All right Jasmine. Since you got off work early today, how about we go shopping?”
If she were to stay at the Newton residence, Jasmine would definitely question her.
Upon hearing the word shopping, Jasmine immediately perked up. She took Whitney’s hand as they walked out and enthusiastically recommended her favorite luxury brands.
She chattered non-stop throughout the journey.
It wasn’t until nine in the evening that the two of them returned to the Newton residence. Their bodyguard carried bags of various sizes behind them.
Everything belonged to Jasmine.
Whitney couldn’t help but sigh. Indeed, the world of the wealthy was beyond her comprehension.
After bidding goodnight to Jasmine, Whitney carried a warm cup of milk upstairs.
There was no sign of Charles in the bedroom. Whitney carefully ascended the stairs and knocked on the study door. “Charles, are you in there?”
“Mm-hmm.”
Upon hearing his response, Whitney entered with the cup of milk.
The light in the study was dim, with only a single lamp illuminating his desk.
Under the illumination of the lights, his aura of coldness intensified, giving off a vibe that kept people away.
He lazily lifted his head and asked, “What’s up?”
Whitney placed the milk on the table and took a step back. “I see that you’re still working, so I thought I’d drop by. Carry on.”
Charles remained silent and didn’t even look at her.
The next day, Whitney left the Newton residence early. She didn’t want those two from the Newton family to see her fighting with Charles.
Rumors within the company were still flying around wildly.
The moment she stepped into the company, people began to talk behind her back, and it even reached her ears.
“Look, she’s the one who’s involved with Mr. Turner. She doesn’t seem to be from Chanaea. No wonder she started flirting as soon as she walked in.”
“Do you think she’s a fool? After all, it’s not easy to win Mr. Newton’s favor. She has to start somewhere, and the people around him would be the easiest targets. Otherwise, do you think she would try to get close to Mr. Turner?”
Those two were engrossed in their conversation as if no one else existed. Left with no other choice, Whitney had to quicken her pace.
Upon arriving at her workstation, she found a small heap of documents neatly stacked on her desk, each marked with the department they were to be delivered to.
Tasks like these were usually assigned to the new interns in the company. This approach not only prevented wasting the abilities of the employees but also provided an opportunity for the interns to better understand the various departments within the company.
The reason those people acted this way was simply because they looked down on her.
The more they doubted her, the more determined she became to prove them wrong. No matter what the task, she would complete it diligently, giving them no opportunity to criticize her.
Sorting out the documents by floor, Whitney took a deep breath, and then, holding the files in her hand, she made her way through the various departments of Newton Group, attempting to distribute all the documents before the morning meeting.
The lunch break ended, and the logistics department convened a meeting.
Queenie distributed the tasks for the new quarter and called out to Whitney and Lana.
“Both of you have similar capabilities within our department. The company has now assigned two tasks to the logistics department, which you’ll need to carry out simultaneously. I’ll send you the tasks shortly. Any questions?”
Lana spoke up before Whitney could. “I’m fine with it, but I’m worried about Whitney She just started her job officially. I’m not sure if she can handle such a huge task.”
Whitney didn’t pay attention to the mockery in her words, she simply responded earnestly, “Rest assured, Chief, I will strive to complete the task you’ve given me.”
“There’s only the last quarter left of this year Everyone must rally their spirits, strive to excel in their current tasks, and put a definitive end to this year on a high note.”
The meeting concluded, and everyone left.
Lana called out to Whitney from behind, wrapping her arms around her shoulders in a show. of faux concern. “Keep going,” she said. “You’ve finally made it through the probation period. I believe you’ll be a worthy opponent.”
“I hope you won’t resort to petty tricks.”
Whitney didn’t want to engage in further conversation with her, so she responded briefly and quickly walked away.
In the afternoon, Queenie assigned the tasks to them. Whitney and Lana were each appointed as team leaders for these two tasks. Each of them had three people under their command to work together to complete the tasks.
Naturally, the group with Lana consisted of her few followers, while under Whitney were several newcomers to the company, just like her.
The task issued required the logistics department to procure all the items currently needed by the company, and a list had been drawn up.
This task may seem effortless, but it involved the needs of everyone in the company.
Lana snatched the simpler task. She would be responsible for the procurement of large-scale equipment and items for each department. Meanwhile, Whitney would be in charge of the needs of the personnel in each department.
Looking at the screen filled with a dense array of numbers and names, Whitney instantly felt overwhelmed.
She gathered her team members into a group and shared her expectations with them.
“We are now in the same team, like grasshoppers tied to a rope. Since the company is willing to entrust us with such an important task, we must not let our leaders down. Everyone can share what they are good at, so I can assign tasks accordingly.”
Whitney noted down their respective areas of expertise during the discussion, certain that it would be useful in the future.
Even though she was the team leader, she didn’t put on any airs typical of that role.
She made a list of some urgently needed items, sought approval from Queenie, and then headed out with her team.
“Sissi, from what I understand, isn’t it unusual for our company to have the logistics department handle purchases? Why is it that this time they’ve entrusted such a task to newcomers like us?”
Walking beside Whitney was a college graduate, barely in her early twenties, named Xenia.
Whitney was searching for information about the task when she heard the question. She shifted her gaze from her phone to the window.
“Perhaps it’s to hone the skills of the employees. Besides, isn’t the logistics department there to ensure the company’s logistical support?”
Whitney had found it hard to believe when Queenie had said she would assign the task to her. Compared to Lana, she still lacked experience.
“Sissi, I saw you speaking at the last general meeting. I truly admire your ability to speak in front of so many people. I don’t have nearly as much courage as you do.”
Flattered by her praise, Whitney felt a bit embarrassed. “I had no other choice at that time.”
“By the way, Xenia, no matter how close you are with someone in the company, always keep your guard up. Don’t share everything when conversing with others. This is the key to survival in the corporate world.” This material belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
After all, she had learned her lesson from the last incident.
She wanted to offer others help after having been through it all. Perhaps it was Queenie’s help that made Whitney unable to resist opening up a bit more to her.
Upon hearing this, Xenia expressed her gratitude with a nod, and then promptly set off to work.
It was almost time to clock out when Whitney returned with Xenia. They brought some items that needed to be handed over to the company urgently.
In the CEO’s office, Charles stood before the floor-to-ceiling windows, watching Whitney below. With orderly precision, she directed the workers to unload the items from the vehicle.
Knock Knock
Charles returned to his seat as he heard the door.
It was none other than the chief of the logistics department, Queenie.
