Chapter 1573
On the way, he called Waverly several times, but no one answered. Wyatt stepped on the accelerator like mad, as anxious as a cat on hot bricks.
Had she been infuriated? How could she not mention such an important incident to him? He wondered where on her body the injury was. Was it serious?
When he arrived at the entrance of the company, Wyatt got out of the car right in time for him to receive a call from Seth. Locking the door, he couldn't help rolling his eyes. "I'm at the door. Your efficiency..."
What was the use of giving him the contact to her company right then?
"Boss, it's not that I'm slow in efficiency, but with your waves coming one after the other, you have to give me the chance to straighten them out for you! I asked about what happened last night. Miss Castle did encounter a robber on her way home. The robber was caught in no time. He's a local. It is said that there are no criminal records, but he owes tons of debts to credit cards, loans, and business owners. He couldn't afford to repay all the money, so he borrowed a few hundred dollars to solve a pressing issue. In addition to the trivials back at home, and the pressure from the need for money, he resorted to committing robbery out of muddle-headedness. He claimed not to have hurt Miss Castle on purpose. With how bitterly Miss Castle cried, he did not feel at ease either. In the end, he might have accidentally slashed his knife against her neck out of nervousness!"
"She must be frightened! What? Against her neck? Why didn't you say it earlier?" Could the robber control his strength in such a panic? It might be fatal!
Wyatt roared. Seth paused for two seconds before he hurriedly reassured Wyatt by saying, "It's fine! It's fine! The medical practitioners dealt with it, saying that the uppermost layer of the skin was torn and did not hurt the blood vessels..."
"I get it! Help me deal with the company's affairs. I won't go over today!"
After hanging up the phone, Wyatt went straight in. After asking around, he learned that Waverly had just arrived at the company. As she had to go on a business trip, she headed home to pack her luggage, so Wyatt went to her mansion without the slightest delay. He didn't have time to catch a breath throughout his entire process.
"Aunt McGowan, is Waverly at home?"
"Mr. Johnson?"
Upon seeing him at the door, Aunt McGowan was obviously shocked.
"Miss Castle went on a business trip! She came back to pack up and said she was in a hurry, so she left with a few clothes and a laptop. It wasn't long before she left!"
Another step too late!
All of a sudden, a piece of his heart seemed to have been ripped off as he felt empty and lost. "Oh, Aunt McGowan, is the wound on Waverly's neck serious? Is it serious?" One day and one night, Wyatt was at his wit's end. Right then, he was in no hurry to chase after her. He knew that even if he could catch up with her, he would not be able to have a proper talk with her.
"It's scabbed. If you take a closer and careful look, you can see the wound clearly. It's so long and shocking! Oh, last night, Miss Castle came back with gauze on her neck. I was shocked. Today, I took off the gauze and cleaned the wound, so it's a lot better. It's right on the neck. How dangerous it is! Fortunately, the robber didn't use too much strength. It's a little ugly though!"
Wyatt's heart ached with every word she said. He felt even worse and did not ask any more questions. "Mm, it's a blessing that she's fine!"
If anything were to have happened to her, he would never forgive himself in his lifetime!
At the thought of Waverly, a part of his heart softened.
"Aunt McGowan, sometimes I get dizzy when I'm busy, so I'm also a little careless. Waverly is proud and won't take the initiative to ask for help. If you need anything in the future, remember to remind me more. No matter what happens, I will try my best!"
No matter how inconvenient it was in the future, he would never neglect her call again!
"Noted! Thank you, Mr. Johnson. I thank you on behalf of Miss Castle."
"Aunt McGowan, you're too polite. By the way, your little grandson is clever and cute. He's so amazing at drawing tortoises! When you have time, you can bring him here to have fun!"
"Uh?"
Aunt McGowan was confused as bewilderment flashed across her face. "Mr. Johnson, you're good at making jokes. Indeed, I have a grandson. He's cute, but he's less than a year old!"
The next second, it was Wyatt's turn to be stunned to the spot. "Waverly's room..." Who drew the pile of tortoises on his clothes?
As their gazes exchanged, Wyatt immediately understood. Who else could it be? The little girl!
Drawing a nest of turtles on his clothes must either be cursing him or belittling him!
Even after being caught red-handed, she made up the rhetoric for him in a high- sounding way? Indeed, he was foolish enough to believe her words when she said so, to the point where he got into a serious conversation with her about the tortoise. Back then, she must have probably laughed him out!
With a dry laugh, Aunt McGowan came to an instant realization.
"When Miss Castle was young, she raised a turtle and was really fond of it! At first, she liked to rear goldfish. She placed them in a bowl and held it carefully in her hands every day. She would either be staring at it or playing around with it. She loved the fishes dearly, but they died not long after. She was really sad, so Mr. Harry told her to find a pet that's easier to raise, so he gave her a small tortoise! Miss Castle raised it for many years and loved it for a period of time. When she grew up, there were children who cried and insisted on asking for it. Miss Castle sent the tortoise away, and although she made a fuss several times, she never keep a pet tortoise again! Miss Castle sometimes behaves like a child, but she's actually very kind to her servants, unlike how the rumors claim to be. All those nasty words about her do not exist, nor is she one to play with men for fun. Most of the time, she prefers to stay in her room. She's a very calm person..."
Aunt McGowan had wanted to say that she was not a fickle woman, but she did not know how to clarify the past for Waverly and whether she should say more. She could only stop where she should.
Hearing that, Wyatt's mind could outline a calm, beautiful, and satisfying image of her having fun in her room, along with the softening of his cold and stiff facial features. Of course, he regarded those words as a servant speaking up for her master. Although he was delighted deep down, he did not take it to heart.
"I know! I will treat Miss Castle well. Aunt McGowan, thank you!"
After leaving, Wyatt went home at once. Right then, he was not in a hurry. Instead, he made time to arrange his work well before he packed up and headed for Laramie City.
When Wyatt arrived at Laramie City Hotel, it was in the evening of the next day. Scanning at the compact small room in front of him, which was the so-called double luxurious and super large room, Wyatt found it stuffy. The size of the room was as big as a palm. The key point was that the furnishing looked cheap and inferior.
How could the woman live in such a shabby hotel? She didn't lack money!
It was not safe judging from its appearance!noveldrama
The thought flashed through Wyatt's mind, and he could only brace himself to say, "This room!"
What could he do since Waverly lived in the hotel? He had to stay in the hotel even if she didn't like it!
She briefly cleaned up. Seeing that it was early, Wyatt took a shower and got himself ready to pick her up and have a meal with her!
When everything was dealt, he dialed her number once more.
As always, no one accepted the call. Wyatt shook his head helplessly, saying.,
What a bad-tempered woman! How many calls did he make? Not a text was from her! If he didn't come over, was she going to ignore him for how long?
If he waited for her to go on a business trip, he would be messing things up again, wouldn't he?!
After getting out the door, Wyatt
went to her room to see if she would
return in advance, but there was no
response at the door after he knocked for a long time. When he was about to head over to her office, his cell phone rang all of a sudden. After answering the phone, Wyatt had just hung up when the screen lit up once more. He didn't want to the call seeing that it was from Raynee. He intended to hang up, but not knowing how, it was connected through, so Wyatt had no choice but to crack a small talk. What he received in response was a sad and miserable voice, revolving around the trophy she had missed and her family's doubt.
Once or twice, Wyatt would feel sorry for her and could comfort her on the spot, but hearing too much of it caused him to feel nothing,
especially when he didn't want to
hear her voice at all. To
it was
alla clamor, and from time to time, it would remind him of the mistakes he had made, causing him to feel uncomfortable.
"That's enough."
Cutting her off halfway through, Wyatt still controlled his voice to be gentler.
"Don't worry about what has already happened! What you should do now is not call me, but think about what you will do in the future! Even if you talk to me for two days and two nights, I can't restore your reputation or persuade your family to understand you! You should tell your family what you're telling me, Raynee, I really am busy..."
Just as he was about to tell her to hang up, the corner of his eyes caught sight of
a cold gaze that darted over without warning. As he turned around, Wyatt pressed
the hang- up button.
Waverly?
"You're back?"
His eyes lit up. Turning around with a few big strides, Wyatt rushed up to her side.
"Waverly?"
He could not hide the joy in his heart. Subconsciously, Wyatt stretched out to grab
her hand.
Waverly was indeed shocked to see him, but little did she expect to hear him flirting with another woman along the way. Although she was pleased, she couldn't hide her anger. Pouting, she swung his hand off to open the door.
"Mr. Johnson, you're so open-minded. How are you so quick not to dwell on what happened by coming here?"
As soon as she entered the door, Waverly wanted to close the door at once. As Waverly shoved him out the door, Wyatt's face revealed drastic changes. "Waverly?"
Did she overhear?
It was meant for Raynee. How could it be the same?
Once the thought passed through Wyatt's mind, he felt that he was indeed a
double standard guy. "I didn't forget, and I didn't mean to push the responsibility onto someone else..."
He was indeed in the wrong!
No matter what the reason was, a mistake was a mistake!
He admitted to his mistake!
Clearly, Waverly did not buy his apologies. "Sorry, I'm vengeful and petty! It's a
trivial matter, but I'll remember it for a lifetime!"
He was there for her, but he was on the phone with another woman. Why wouldn't
he die?
She lifted her leg to thrust her foot out kicking Wyatt hard. With an instinctive dodge, Wyatt loosened his grip on her, so Waverly took the opportunity to shut the
door with a "bang" and lock it from inside.
"Waverly...'
