Chapter 1671
Waverly was shocked with her heart pounding wildly. Out of fear, she turned off the phone. With a shift of her dazed gaze, only then did she remember that what she had heard was the recording playback rather than eavesdropping in real-time. Her restless heart gradually calmed down a little. With a nervous swallow of her saliva, her eyebrows followed by furrowing into a frown.
Was he back for the chip he didn't even know existed or not?
Who was that man? What exactly was Franklin's weakness that was within his hands? Else, why did it seem as though Franklin was being pointed in the nose and berated?
Wyatt had mentioned that it was related to drugs. It was a crime. How could he be involved with such a person?
Having thought of thousands of possibilities, Waverly had not expected his resurrection to not just be for the sake of feelings!
Waverly could not help but mock herself with a sarcastic scoff.
How could he be back for their relationship? If he had the slightest bit of feelings for her, he probably would not come looking for her again! How could the incident have anything to do with her?
The key was that what was it they were talking about? She didn't know anything at all!
Waverly knocked on her head, feeling like a white rabbit that was trapped in the deep forest. She was surrounded by wolves, tigers, and leopards, yet she wore a blank face. Knocking on her head, she murmured to herself.
"At this point, are you still in the mood to care about others? You are so unlucky. You'd better put your mind into thinking about how you can free yourself from this mess."
Her head throbbed...
How many of those around her were coming for that item? Was there anyone else she could trust left? Would she become the first wronged ghost for no reason?
Getting deeper in thought, the more wronged she felt. With her lips pursed in anger, Waverly had an impulse to hop around in anger. When would all of it end?
She racked her brains out, but she couldn't come up with a solution. When a gush of chilly wind brushed past her shoulders, Waverly shivered before grabbing the leash of the dog and trotting into the house.
She wondered if there were any eyes in the dark locking their hungry gazes on her.
If her father and brother were around, they would definitely help her out!
When the thought flashed through her mind, Waverly was homesick all of a sudden. On the way back, her lonely shadow was reflected on the streets. By the time the bedroom door closed, she sobbed, feeling the urge to burst into tears.
When she returned to the computer, she opened the audio files and listened to them. The more she listened, the more flustered she grew. "What's going on?"
Why did they say that the item was with her? Yet, she didn't have it!
Wyatt was looking for the item. According to his words, the Four Great Masters of Casterwich City were all searching for it. As far as she knew, Trevor was associated with it. More than once, others had attempted to kill him. Although she was not sure what purpose the other party had in mind, obviously there were at least two groups of men on the hunt for the item, or perhaps were watching her!
As if there was a massive stone pressing on her heart, Waverly felt out of breath. She got to her feet, bit her nails, and paced around, turning in circles in the room. It seemed that the item was of ultimate importance!
Wouldn't it mean that she was doomed?
The thought increased her irritation. In the end, she had no idea how, but she heard a sudden long bang. When Waverly came to her senses, she saw the floor was in a mess. She did not know when the objects on the table had been swept to the ground by her!
"Alas..."
With a howl in anguish, she bent over to start cleaning up. As she went on cleaning the room, the more uncomfortable she felt staring at the items and arrangement of the room, so started a round of arranging, dusting, and discarding. It was more than an hour later when she finally stopped. Beads of sweat began to form on her forehead, but her heart felt more at ease. Holding the little bits and pieces in her arms, she carried her bag and settled down on the couch to sort the things out.
Humming was heard.
As she hummed a tune, she changed her pen refills and tore the small notebook she carried with her before inserting the notebook into her bag one by one and placing it neatly. From the inside to the outside, she tidied her purse, all kinds of cards, and pocket money. Everything was neatly systemized. When she picked up the key, she habitually fiddled with the flurry ball keychain before proceeding to polish her nails with a nail clipper. Shaking the keychain once more, she stuffed the keys into the bag before reaching out to grab it back. In the direction of the light, her sight fell on a black pendant behind the pink-purple flurry ball keychain. In a photo frame pendant was a smaller version of her photo printed through the phone.
The frame...?
Fidgeting the keys, Waverly frowned.
Sometimes, her memory was poor, and she would often not be able to find the key after throwing it around. It was why no matter whether each key was tied to a ring or separately placed, each key was bound with a flurry ball. In addition to a girl's affection for such tiny stuff, more importantly, it was easier for her to find the key. The flurry ball was large but easy to compress since it was fluffy and soft. It was easy to stuff it into bags, regardless of the size of the bags.
Since the flurry balls would be smeared with dust after being used for a long time, she would replace them frequently. Occasionally, she would not mind continuing to use the flurry balls after washing them. Right then, the pink- purple ball with obviously used marks was hung on the key ring. In addition to the huge bunch of home keys, there were two tiny bells and a pendant attached to the photo frame. Since the robbery at Violet Castle Villa, she had never gone back. She had separated the keys into another bunch. Although she carried it with her, she had never touched it for some time. After taking a closer look at it, Waverly found that she could not remember where the pendant was from!noveldrama
Although she did not care about the price whenever she made a purchase, and many luxury goods and special items were a gift from others she had an impression of the people giving her the items, even if it was vague. It was the same for the two tiny bells attached to her phone, which she remembered were free gifts from her colleagues' purchases. Although they were not valuable, she took a liking to the simple shape and ringing, so she hung them on the keys. Such
accessories would be worn out in no
time, so she would often need to replace them. She loved new accessories, so she had never rejected any gifted to her, nor did she pay much attention to them. It was common for her to hang a few more accessories.
The pendant, however...
What was going on? Why didn't she have any impression? She couldn't remember where she had bought it or who had given it to her.
As she fiddled with it, Waverly looked around and muttered to herself in confusion,
"It's ordinary. It doesn't look like a pendant from a famous brand."
The workmanship was ordinary!
The pendant was not considered special. It was a black gold buckle, neutral for both males and females. On one side was a photo frame while the other was a hollowed flattened steel ball fastened to a rough leather rope. It was short but was an accessory that could not be worn on the wrist. It was a simple pendant. After turning it over to size it up several times, Waverly was puzzled. Her hands rubbed the flattened ball near the leather cord. All of a sudden, a faint uneven sense attacked the nerves of her fingertips. With a pause, her eyes focused on the spot. Again and again, she rubbed it several times over. "It seems to be flat
though!"
Tugging at the cord, she noticed that the leather cord was tied in a fancy knot. It couldn't be pulled, rendering her at a loss.
Was it her illusion? Was it the knot of the rope?
Closing her eyes and adjusting her mood, Waverly fumbled back and forth with her fingertips. The obvious protruding sense came once more, stimulating her fingertips to pinch at the spot that stuck out.
Was there something in the leather cord?
Waverly picked up a pair of tweezers and took the pendant to the lamp on one side. When she took a closer look, she found that there was an obvious sticking mark on the side of the leather. Prying up a corner of the leather, she turned to face it to the light, only to see a glimpse of silver light flashing past her eyes.
Was it... a chip?
A thought flashed through Waverly's mind. With a slight crack, she was so frightened that she dropped tweezers on the table. Was the chip in her hands, for
real?
When her eyes fell on the table, she felt her back breaking out in a cold sweat. Had she found the item that caused everyone a headache? What should she do?
Her trembling hands picked up tweezers again. Waverly carefully pried open the leather cord, to which a phone card dropped on the table.
After closing her eyes shut multiple times, Waverly stared at the chip and had no choice but to accept reality. She inserted the phone card into the phone and connected it to the computer. Soon, she found what might have been the formula.
The other party was indeed smart. They could have simply saved the formula in the form of a photo, but they managed to import all the photos into texts and stored it in the form of a document. If an ordinary person picked up the card, one might not pay close attention to reading the words!
They were all photos taken of hand-written papers. Some of the words were scrawled with circles on the side as if they were notes added with different colors. Although she couldn't understand a thing, Waverly recognized the chemical equations. In addition to several key terms similar to professional terms appearing in the document, she was certain that the chip was what they had worked hard to search for!
It was no wonder that all parties had rushed to locate the chip. If it was indeed the formula for producing drugs, it was no different from a chicken that laid golden eggs! Judging from the picture and the way the words were written, it was obvious that it was the archetype of experiments.
Even if it was a pile of gold, it was also a
ticking time bomb!
If the item were to be discovered by the police, they would be in jail!
She had been worried about not being able to find the item. Right then as it was
with her, it was a problem for her to have to deal with it!
To insert such an important item into an inconspicuous pendant, one had to admit that the other party was smart, not to mention how they hid it so well. The phone card was stuck at the intersection between the leather cord and the metal piece. The leather was two-layered. It was both waterproof and could prevent the phone card from falling off. With the protection of the steel flattened ball, it did not bend and ruin its
shape. There was a guarantee of the quality, but it was a worthless pendant. Who would have thought that such an important item was
hidden in it? Furthermore, she openly carried it around with her.
The other party was indeed smart. The more dangerous a place was, the safer it was. Although the
pendant was not delicate, it was net
considered quite good-looking. 4t was durable for not being deformed
even after a long time. It was not eye-catching no matter whether it fell into the hands of a man or a
woman. Under the care of a woman, however, one would not throw it
away. The other party had chosen her as well, a completely unrelated stranger. How smart had they been back then? Under so many people's
eyes, they had managed to protect the pendant. Had it not been for Stefan's accidental message, they would have retrieved the item in
silence by leaving a message, a hint, or a clue! Had it not been for the accidents, she might not have been
aware throughout the entire process.
