Chapter 1677
In an instant, the two men's movements began to change. As soon as footsteps could be heard, Wyatt's footsteps naturally followed suit. The sound was like the last straw in the camel's back, and it made everyone tense up to their limits.
Vaguely, Wyatt seemed to hear the sound of a phone call again, but there were only a few people at the scene. Just as he turned to look at the man's ear which was being partially covered by the two women, before he could catch him, he heard one of the men speak.
"If you can only save one of the two women, who will you choose?"
The sudden question caught all three of them off guard. Wyatt's face even changed.
"Don't! Don't hurt anyone. Don't act recklessly! As long as you leave them unharmed, no matter what conditions you want, I will act like nothing happened here today. I will not pursue the matter. I will keep my word!
However, if you choose to hurt them, whether I die or not, both of you will definitely come to a miserable end. I don't have what you want. I am already prepared to exchange company secrets for their lives. How much is your stupid formula worth? As if I would be interested. That has nothing to do with me."
"Since you guys are trying to find it, you guys must know that I am the same. I am not lying. You guys know that, don't you?"
Wyatt was trying his best to diffuse the situation. He was so filled with fear that his organs were shaking.
If he was alone, then he might have risked the gamble. But now, he was unable to do anything! Furthermore, he didn't know whether the men had any backup lurking in the shadows.
In short, the situation was terrible!
He had been too careless earlier. He didn't expect these people to be so reckless. When he chased after Raynee, he had given these men an opportunity to act. Not only that, never in his wildest dreams had he expected
Waverly to show up here.
At this moment, his hands were tied. Wyatt did not dare to act rashly. He could not afford to take any risks.
If they were just ordinary kidnappers or robbers, he might have been able to intimidate them. However, when it came to the formula, he didn't need to think at all. He knew that the men didn't care about their own lives. It was possible that the men were already prepared to sacrifice themselves. Thus, Wyatt did not dare to bet against their threats. In their eyes, murder was nothing new. When it came down to it, they were not going to show mercy.
Wyatt earnestly tried to keep calm, but he was so nervous that he could not take his eyes off them. He was looking for every possible opportunity. The two men remained silent as if they were thinking. At the same time, they moved subtly in preparation for what they wanted to do next.
"It sounds... quite reasonable!"
One of them muttered as if he was thinking, and his feet shuffled in place. Obviously, the two of them had a tacit understanding. When one of them moved, the other would already know which direction he was heading. Before this, the two of them had kept their positions on Wyatt's right and left sides to ensure that it wouldn't be easy for him to see hostages. However, after a few turns, the two of them had pulled apart the distance between the two sides.
"I'll do you a favor. That's all for today!"noveldrama
As soon as his voice fell, the man suddenly shouted, "Retreat!"
The next second, a loud splash was heard. Wyatt looked toward the sound reflexively. Immediately, he saw Raynee being pushed down into the water. The man was already making his escape.
"Raynee!"
Wyatt gave an instinctive cry. Before he could react, another loud splash rang out and he turned around. He saw that Waverly had also been thrown into the water. Similarly, the man started to run off.
"Waverly..."
Everything happened all at once. Wyatt didn't have time to think about it and jumped down too. His first reaction was that he was headed in the direction of Waverly, but when his head popped out of the water, Raynee was standing right in front of him. She was waving her arms, obviously drowning. On the other side, because Waverly was pushed down a little later, Wyatt didn't notice anything wrong. He suddenly recalled that Waverly knew how to swim. On the other hand, Raynee had an old injury that caused her to use up her bodily energy a lot quicker. Because of her body position, Wyatt decided to reach out to save Raynee first.
Wyatt's plan was to save her first and then save Waverly. He thought that she would be able to hold on for a little longer if she tried. However, he had forgotten that accidents could happen in the world and that the ones who hurt her the most weren't sharp weapons like swords. Instead, it was emotional pain. The most unbearable pain was usually that of the heart. Once someone's heart was broken, it could never heal!
Waverly snapped back to reality. When she opened her eyes and saw what was going on, it felt like she had been struck by lightning. In that instant, all of the blood in her body seemed to have frozen, to the point where she completely forgot how she was in the water. She couldn't process how to react. However, at such a critical time of life and death, even a second's hesitation could cost her her life.
When Waverly came to herself, she was awakened by a rapid current. Her survival instincts kicked in as she waved her hands and feet. However, her legs were cramping and she had no energy to push herself up. Gradually, she could feel her body sinking lower.
"Cough, cough... Help!"
Another rapid current washed over her. With a snap, her body was swept by a powerful force, and even her weak voice was drowned by it, leaving only a faintly discernible echo.
On the other side, Wyatt quickly grabbed Raynee's wrist. While picking her up, Wyatt used his memory to turn around and look for Waverly. When he looked up, he found that the huge lake surface was sparkling with silver light, and every direction looked the same. The lake was very peaceful. There were no signs of anything moving in the water. He looked around, and in an instant, he panicked.
"Waverly..."
He shouted and swam desperately in the direction of his memory. "Waverly, where are you?"
"Where is she?"
"Why can't I see her?"
"It can't be!"
There was no way she could be this fast. Even if she could swim, there was no way she could get ashore and disappear so quickly.
Worst case scenario, she could choke or perhaps her leg could get caught on something and she would sink down. That would mean that she would not be able
to float up. The more he thought about it, the more worried he felt. Even in the water, Wyatt felt his back break out into a cold sweat.
"Waverly, where are you?"
"Please don't let anything happen to you!"
There was someone in his hand and Wyatt was not sure if he should let
her go. In a state of panic, he had no choice but to get Raynee out of the water first. Then, he dove back in. The water seemed to be endless. Wyatt swam around but he could not find any sign of Waverly. His physical strength was starting to dip. However, he seemed to hear her soft cries for help in his mind. The clearer it sounded, the more his heart ached. His arms never stopped moving. At this point, his whole body had already gone numb, but he refused to give up.
At this time, Raynee was already in a coma on the shore. Those who had noticed the abnormality also called the police. The commotion on the side of the road also attracted a lot of people's attention. The people who could swim also began to jump into the water one after another. However, most of them were going for the only movement that could be seen in the dark which was Wyatt's figure.
Using all his strength, Wyatt
desperately searched everywhere for that familiar figure. The lake
water was cold at night, and the net
restraint of his clothes and pulling one person ashore had exhausted him. Even though his stamina was high, he could only hold on for so long. In front of his eyes, there was a shadow moving, but he could no longer lift his arm.
He only murmured subconsciously, "Waverly, Waverly..."
"Help! Someone is drowning!"
"911! Someone call an ambulance!"
Before fainting into unconsciousness, Wyatt could only feel the world spinning
around him as his body grew heavy. He couldn't keep his eyelids open and in the end, he fell into a thick darkness.
By the time Wyatt opened his eyes again, it was already bright outside. It was as if
he had had a nightmare. He sat up from his bed in shock.
"Waverly!"
As the dazzling sunlight shone upon him, he subconsciously raised his hand and squinted. His eyes were slightly dazed as he thought, "Where is this place?" His head was heavy. Scattered memories flooded into his mind like an explosion. Wyatt was shocked. When he was about to get out of bed, the door of the ward was pushed open. A nurse entered while pushing a cart.
"Sir, you're awake? That's great! You were soaking in the water for too long. When you were brought in, you were unconscious. Any later and your life might have
been in grave danger..."
"Water?"
That would mean that everything that had happened was real. It wasn't a dream!
Walking forward, the nurse was about to check him and change his dressing when Wyatt grabbed her wrist. "Where are they? Is everyone safe? Is Waverly doing all right?"
He recalled that he saw a figure at the end.
He was fine. He had been rescued. That should have meant that she was fine too,
right?
Being grabbed so firmly, the nurse was shocked.
"Waverly? You mean the lady who sent in with you? She choked on some water.
It's no big deal. Her condition is better than yours! She just fell asleep..."
"Where is she?"
He didn't know that the nurse was talking about Raynee, because in Wyatt's
memory, he had already set her down on the shore. Thus, he assumed that she
was fine and there was no need to worry.
On the other hand, the nurse had no idea what happened. She was frightened by
the firmness on his face. Subconsciously, she pointed to the left.
"She's next door."
Wyatt shoved her aside and ran out.
What do you think?
