Nora

Chapter 99

Chapter 99:.

The cell phones had an app that could check the fluctuations of a stock, and it clearly showed that the stock Nora mentioned had gone up 2% the day before!

In other words, the $300,000 they had invested had returned $6,000 in just one day.

Considering how it had risen despite the stock market crash, this was certainly very impressive.noveldrama

Farrell was a middle-aged, mature and steady man who looked about 50% like Melissa. Unlike Miranda’s mean and gruff appearance, he had a unique air of a scholarly trader about him.

His eyebrows were close together, but he still looked up and said, “Your profit yesterday can only be attributed to luck. The stock market is very volatile right now, so it’s no wonder the stock went up for a day. This particular stock has been falling lately. You’d better take the opportunity to sell it today.”

He then looked at Melissa sternly and lectured, “Woods family teachings forbid us to gamble and take drugs. Melissa, I know you have little money. That’s why I told Miranda to find you and let you make some money with us. Why do you have to let things get to this point?”

Melissa looked at him, her expression somewhat dazed.

It seemed like she hadn’t seen her older brother in a long time.

The brothers had gotten along very well in the past. She still remembered how her older brother had especially appraised Simon’s character for her when she fell in love with him back then.

When did they become so distant from each other?

It seemed to be since he married Miranda.

Farrell and Miranda’s marriage could be considered a political marriage between the Woods and the Sonnets. Farrell had the pride of a litterateur, and he trusted Miranda enough to leave her in charge of all family affairs after they were married.

Miranda was a mean woman. She would get jealous and say a lot of mean things whenever Farrell was the least bit nice to Melissa. She didn’t want to cause rifts in her brother’s family, so after her parents passed away she rarely returned to the Woods’ residence in recent years.

Seeing that Melissa was silent, Farrell sighed, pulled out a bank card and handed it to her. He said, “I know Miranda has a foul mouth, but do you really think I’m going to leave you to your own devices when you’re broke, Melissa? Here’s $800,000. Don’t worry, it’s my own money. Your sister-in-law doesn’t know about it.”

His comforting words made Melissa tear up a little.

She was still wearing a well-fitted dress that outlined her slender figure and slim waist today, making her look elegant and classy.

Aside from Simon’s lack of drive to do better, the other reason the Andersons were in a bind today was that she was content to maintain the status quo.

Melissa knew there was a bit of literary haughtiness in her all these years. She didn’t like to socialize, didn’t take money and such things too seriously.

That’s why, when Farrell called her yesterday, she had immediately agreed.

Real estate was booming.

Besides, the Lowes were also a trusted wealthy family in New York. Everyone knew them and their background well, so nothing would go wrong investing in them. That’s why he had agreed.

But now…

Melissa handed the bank card back to Farrell. She said, “Farrell, I’ve made a mistake in my judgment. We actually have enough to spend. Besides, once we get through this month, the Andersons will have money when we recoup the production costs of the Rest Pills. That’s just fine.”

At her insistence, Farrell insisted no further.

However, he still cautioned, “Stocks are risky. It’s okay to gamble a little bit with that $300,000, but don’t put any more in, okay?”

Melissa didn’t approve of the stock trade either. She had given Nora the $300,000 the day before only because she appreciated Nora’s intentions to help. So, she nodded at Farrell’s reminder.

Nora had overheard the entire conversation between the siblings, and it left her with a good impression of her aunt’s brother.

Seeing that he was about to leave, Nora suddenly said, “Uncle Farrell, please wait a moment.”

Farrell stopped and looked at her with a slight frown.

There was no disdain in his eyes, but a look of scrutiny.

Confidence and charm that only scholarly families possessed made him look like a straight man.

It was a pity that, instead, they produced a daughter like Rachel Wood, who did not inherit the scholarly aura.

Nora suppressed the feeling of regret in her and said, “Real estate is not going to do well in the future. Are the Wood’s really going to invest with the Lowes?”

Farrell was taken aback to hear her. He didn’t immediately refute her, but after careful thought, he said, “The Lowes are a great real estate firm, and they are one of the firms with the shrewdest business acumen around. Other than the Hunts, no one else can compare with them when it comes to real estate. Otherwise, we would not have immediately bet on them the moment they offered the opportunity to invest to other families.”

He then paused and turned to Melissa again. He said, “Miranda may have been a little anxious when she spoke to you yesterday, but there’s actually a reason for that. Real estate is lucrative, so everyone wants a piece. It wasn’t easy for the Lowe’s to finally share in some of the opportunities. I only managed to get my hands on a share worth $30 million after a lot of difficulty.”

He let out a sigh at the thought.

His younger sister had had a hard life these past few years, so he wanted to let her earn some money along with him. If they really couldn’t afford it, then he would just pay his investment capital up front for now.

He was thinking about that when Nora calmly said, “Uncle Farrell, the Lowes have been in real estate for many years and have a great relationship with the bank. If they don’t have sufficient funds, why don’t they take out a loan? Also, why didn’t the Lowes partner with the Hunts? They are both in real estate, so it would only be more convenient for them if they cooperated. Maybe I can go ask around; Mr. Hunt must have turned down their offer.”

Farrell was even more confused. He asked, “Where did you hear that from?”

The moment he said that, Melissa snapped to attention and asked, “Nora, was it Justin who told you that real estate wouldn’t do well in the future?”

Nora, “???”

Before she could answer, however, Melissa had already been convinced. She turned around and tried to convince Farrell, “Farrell, Nora and Justin are sort of friends. If it was Justin who told her that, then you should be careful.”

Farrell frowned and sank into contemplation as he heard what she said.

A moment later, he said, “Okay.”

He hurried away after saying that.

Nora didn’t worry about whether or not he believed her. Nor did she care whether he would go through with the investment or not. Whether or not the Woods suffered losses had nothing to do with her. She had told him what she owed, so she had done enough.

He went straight up.

Farrell got into the car after dropping off the Andersons. With a solemn look, he indicated to the driver, “To the Hunt Corporation.”

They arrived at the destination quickly.

He got out of the car and entered the building.

The Woods and the Lowes enjoyed similar status among New York’s wealthy. Farrell could be considered an influential figure, so when he suddenly paid a visit, the lobby reception didn’t dare waste time. They immediately reported his arrival upstairs.

Justin was supervising Pete’s studies. At first he didn’t want to meet Farrell when he heard he was here. However, when he thought about the fact that Farrell was Melissa’s older brother and therefore had some kinship with that woman, he finally allowed him to come upstairs.

Soon, Farrell entered his office. After the two exchanged a few pleasantries, Justin cut straight to the chase and asked, “What brings Mr. Wood here today?”

The man was twenty years younger than he was, but even Farrell couldn’t handle his aura. He smiled kindly and replied, “It’s like this. I hear that Mr. Hunt has said that real estate is not going to do very well in the future.”

Justin immediately raised his eyebrows and asked, “Who did you hear that from, Mr. Wood?”
