Not Your Doormat Anymore

Chapter 60

Kourtney genuinely seemed to take pleasure in feeding me. She was always coming up with new dishes for me to try. At this rate, I was sure I'd gain at least five pounds by the time I recovered. That definitely wasn't ideal.

"This is really good," I said, complimenting her cooking.

She smiled and nodded, but after a quick glance at the clock, she suddenly sprang to her feet. "I've got to get to work! Dr. Ranford, you should stay home and rest!" she called out before turning and rushing off.

I couldn't help but shake my head. She really didn't need to push herself so hard.

To avoid gaining five pounds, I decided to get some exercise after my meal. But just as I stepped outside, I bumped into Casey. She was alone and looked like she had been waiting for a while. The moment she saw me, she hurried over.

"What are you doing here?" I asked coldly.

Casey's eyes turned red as she looked at my face. "How could they do this to you? They hurt you this badly... Jace, come work at my company. I swear, no one will ever lay a finger on you again!"noveldrama

Back then, I was always chasing after her, but she took my efforts for granted while secretly meeting up with her so-called true love. Now that I had stopped pursuing her, she felt like something was missing.

Not only was she trying to keep track of where I was, but she was also trying to convince me to reconcile with her.

I let out a cold laugh. "You really think this has nothing to do with you?"

We both knew how much trouble Casey had caused in the past. So, who was she trying to fool with this act?

She stepped back, her eyes wide in disbelief. "How could you think that of me? I love you. I'd never do anything to hurt you."

Tears filled her eyes as she began to sob. "I know you don't believe me, and nothing I say will change that. But I never wanted to hurt you. I just wanted us to reconcile!"

I remained unmoved by her explanation. "I'm not going to your company, and I'm not getting back together with you either. Just give up."

"No!"

Casey grabbed my hand, desperate. I frowned and tried to pull away, but she pressed my hand to her chest.

"I swear, you're the only man I've ever truly loved. I know I took you for granted before, but now, I hope you'll give me a chance to show you who I really am."

"And what makes you think you have the right to say that to me?" I narrowed my eyes, anger rising within me. Was she really trying to rekindle our relationship and repeat the same ending as in my past life?

"I'm sorry, Jace. I can't give up on you. I remember everything about us, and I just can't let go." Tears streamed down her face, but her words only made me want to laugh.

"Do you even remember how many times I asked you to take wedding photos with me?"

She looked at me with teary eyes. "Wasn't it just once?"

I let out a cold laugh. I had asked Casey to take wedding photos with me three times, and each time, she never showed up. Even when she had arranged to meet me, she still couldn't manage to arrive on time.

All her declarations of love were nothing but empty words.

I turned and started walking away. Casey quickly realized her mistake and called

out my name as she hurried after me. But I picked up my pace, and after just a few steps, she couldn't keep up.

After spending about two weeks getting my emotions and mindset back in order, I notified my parents and showed up at the office.

Dad immediately appointed me as general manager and assigned a deputy general manager to assist me. The deputy general manager had been with the company for years and held a portion of unvested shares. No one knew the company's operations better than he did.

Dad told me that if I ever had any questions about work, I could always rely on
