Not Your Doormat Anymore

Chapter 64

I wondered if a general manager was always this free. While I was still in deep thought, Lindsey knocked on the door.

"Come in."

With a smile, Lindsey entered the room with Mira, who was holding a stack of documents, behind her. Mira was huffing as she looked at me with a pleading expression.

Before I could say anything, Lindsey instructed Mira to place the documents on my desk. "These are all the documents that need your approval. Technically, these documents can be settled by the secretaries on your behalf, but since it's your first time managing things, we'll start from the basics. Please open the first document."

I graduated many years ago, so this was the first time since then that I felt like I was in class. Lindsey was always smiling, but when she needed to be strict, she would show no mercy. She had both me and Mira in check.

At noon, when it was time for lunch, I had only managed to get through just over ten files. The rest still sat there in a large pile.noveldrama

"You can consider it my first day of work today. Is it really a good idea to make so many decisions right away?"

Going through all kinds of matters and projects was giving me a headache. It reminded me of the fear I felt when I needed to memorize medical books back then.

"These are minor matters. They're meant for you to practice. You'll improve the more you practice."

Facing Lindsey's smile, I shuddered. "Alright."

It was tougher for Mira. I only needed to participate in making decisions, but she needed to jot down notes and highlight important points the entire morning without pause.

By the time it was lunch break, Mira's hand was already very sore. She and I exchanged glances with bitter expressions. As expected, Jason had been too lenient with us.

Since it was already lunchtime, Mira cleaned up the office and asked what I was planning to have for lunch.

"Doesn't the cafeteria have free lunch? I'm going to eat in the cafeteria."

At that, Lindsey glanced at me. "Since when did the cafeteria have free lunch?"

"I think it started last month? I heard that the company offers free lunch in the cafeteria and even weekends off. That's why I applied to intern here."

Mira stuck out her tongue. In a city like Dynora, where every inch of land was expensive, a free lunch wasn't small perk. If a company could. provide free lunch, it would be heaven to an employee like her. It would've been better if the company could provide housing too.

Lindsey nodded. "That's great. The company used to have nothing. Now that it has grown, the facilities have improved."

There was a hint of nostalgia in Lindsey's expression while Mira nodded beside her. "Now, you can enjoy the free lunch here too!"

"But I always thought executives like Mr. Ranford would go to fancy restaurants for lunch to eat steak and drink red wine. I didn't expect you to have staff meals alongside us too!"

I shook my head with a smile. "You're exaggerating. Besides..."

I recalled the time when I worked at the hospital and had all three meals in the cafeteria. Having staff meals was normal to me.

Although my title had changed, there wasn't a need to go out of my way to act differently. Soon, I composed myself and went to the cafeteria with Lindsey and Mira.

The cafeteria was full of people.

Ever since the free lunch policy was introduced, not only had the number of job applicants skyrocketed, but even the quality of resumes had significantly improved.

"It's indeed a good idea. I heard that it was suggested by you, Mr. Ranford."

On the way to the cafeteria, Lindsey

had figured out the whole story behind the free lunch policy. She looked at me approvingly and said, "Mr. Ranford, the fact that you're thinking about the average O employee is something not many executives at other companies would do."
