Chapter 827
His new company was hanging by a thread.
He had promised hefty paychecks to former employees, assuring them that once the project wrapped up, he'd make it worth their while. But the project flopped because of him. How on earth would he explain this mess to them? He just couldn't face them.
The day had started with a bright, sunny sky, but now thunder grumbled, and a delicate rain began to fall.
Nathalie waltzed back into the office, and the whole company buzzed with celebration over her latest triumph.
As she continued to snag project after project, even the old guard at Stewart Enterprises, who had once doubted her, began to rally behind her. After all, who could say no to success and money?
At the victory party, glasses clinked in Nathalie's honor. In a forgotten corner, Dean, the first wife's husband, and his daughter, Ashley, were treated like they were part of the wallpaper.
Dean tried to chat up some familiar faces, eager to join the fun, but they sidestepped him, choosing to toast the folks around him instead. Their chit-chat felt like salt in his wounds.
Once upon a time, he was the big shot, the chairman of Stewart Enterprises. People had once hung onto his every word. Now, he was just a shadow of that man, feeling the sting of lost respect.
"Nathalie," someone called out, and Dean's eyes lit up. Despite everything, Nathalie was still his niece. If she respected him, maybe all wasn't lost.
He approached her with a hopeful grin. "Nathalie, you're really something else. Getting the Empire project puts Stewart Enterprises on top of the world."
Nathalie's smile was polite but icy "Uncle, it seems like the folks here aren't too thrilled about you hanging around. Maybe it's time to enjoy some well-earned relaxation?"
Dean's flicker of hope snuffed out, replaced by a heavy sense of disappointment at Nathalie's cold demeanor.
Ashley stormed over, flinging her drink at Nathalie. "Nathalie, that's too much! How dare you talk to my dad like that? He's still your elder."noveldrama
In a flash, Nathalie grabbed a glass of wine from a nearby table and splashed it back at Ashley, smashing the empty glass on the floor. Pointing at Dean, she said sharply, "Ashley, remember, be's
also my employee."
Ashley's eyes widened, disbelief etched on her face. "How can you be so cold?"
Just then, Lincoln stepped in and
slapped Ashley, mimicking her tone. "Ashley, that's too much! How dare you talk to the CEO like that? She's your sister."
In both rank and family ties, Dean had more clout than Ashley. She had no choice but to swallow her pride.
She glared at Nathalie, brimming with resentment. "You're just bullies."
Nathalie chuckled. "Why don't you ask your grandfather how he used to push our family around? Now that was real bullying."
Realizing they were outgunned, Ashley and Dean slunk away, their defeat evident.
What do you think?
