Chapter 417 Almost Fell
"Why are you bringing this up so early in the morning?" Seeing the sadness in Emily's eyes, Abigail quickly changed the subject. "Alright, I'm stuffed. I gotta rush to my interview!"
She added, "Emily, be careful when you go out. Make sure to bundle up so I don't worry! And don't touch the dishes. I'll clean them up when I get back! I'm really running late. I'm off now... remember, don't touch them!"
Abigail's nagging went on for a while, and Emily responded just as long.
Once the door finally closed and the nagging stopped, Emily slowly got up, cleared the dishes, and headed to her bedroom to change. She was preparing to go to JM Jewelry Company.
Lately, Emily noticed her belly was getting bigger.
She couldn't fit into her usual work clothes anymore, so she had to opt for looser dresses.
After all, the baby's comfort was the priority.
She chose a light yellow long dress, paired with silver sneakers, tied her hair into a neat ponytail, and grabbed a light chain bag before heading out to catch a cab.
As she rode, the rain started pouring harder. Emily looked out the window, her heart tightening with worry.noveldrama
Honestly, she hadn't expected the rain to get this heavy, and to avoid hassle, she hadn't brought an umbrella.
Now, it seemed like a big mistake.
If she slipped and hurt the baby, she'd never forgive herself.
Thinking about this, Emily gently touched her belly, her worry growing.
"Sir, could you drop me off at the underground parking of JM Jewelry Company? I work there and have urgent business. I'm pregnant, and it's not convenient to get off at the main entrance without an umbrella."
"I can cover the parking fee!" she added.
The driver, understanding her situation, agreed quickly.
But the fare tripled.
Emily, always careful with money, was unhappy about the sudden increase.
But what could she do? She was pregnant.
The baby was her only hope.
Reluctantly, Emily paid the driver the increased fare and let him drive into the underground parking of JM Jewelry Company.
After getting out, she hurried to the elevator.
She had already informed the secretary and Penelope that she would meet the partners today, and now she had only ten minutes left, with no preparation done.
Distracted yesterday and late today-this would be a huge mistake!
The more Emily thought about it, the more anxious she became, quickening her pace without noticing the puddle ahead. She slipped.
Emily let out a scream.
"Miss, are you okay?"
Emily found herself in the strong arms of a handsome young man. Startled, she looked up.
The man, with deep eyes, was staring at her... and her belly.
"Miss, are you okay?" ;The man asked again, snapping Emily back to reality.

She quickly pulled away from his embrace, looking around nervously, afraid someone might see.
Most importantly, she hadn't fully shed the "Mrs. Smith" identity.
Emily always felt that any moment, news of her infidelity could spread online, causing a scandal.
"I'm fine, thank you." Seeing nothing unusual around, Emily felt relieved. But the man kept staring at her belly.
Whether out of curiosity or something else, he didn't realize his gaze was impolite until Emily coldly coughed a few times, bringing him back to his senses.
She said, "Excuse me, what are you looking at? Is it rare to see a pregnant woman? Haven't you seen someone with a big belly slip before?
"Sorry if I sound ungrateful, but your gaze is really offensive. Please stop, and don't look at other women like that in the future."
Seeing Emily genuinely angry, the man stood there, stunned.
After a moment, he didn't explain but chuckled with interest.
He didn't mean any harm, just didn't understand why the woman in front of him was so defensive.
His laugh only made Emily angrier. Despite his good deed, he seemed no different from the hypocrites she had encountered.
Emily decided not to say more. She held her belly and turned to leave.
The man quickly called out, "Hey."

But Emily, with her current temper, wouldn't stop.
To her, these hypocrites always acted with grace, but their true nature showed quickly.
Just like Michael.
Emily thought as she entered the elevator, pressing the button for the top floor.
She carefully walked into Penelope's office, just in time. The clock struck the exact meeting time.
"Luckily, I'm not late," she murmured.
Penelope looked at Emily fondly.
Despite last night's mistake, she trusted Emily's work abilities, which was why she was willing to pay three times the salary to keep her.
"Of course, you're not late. Don't worry, the partners haven't arrived yet. It's raining outside. I thought you might have trouble."
Noticing Emily's wet dress and slightly damp hair and eyelashes, Penelope was surprised and then worried.
"You didn't bring an umbrella? You're all wet!" Penelope quickly grabbed some tissues to help Emily dry off.
Emily waved her hand, explaining, "No, I paid extra for the driver to drop me at the parking lot. I must have gotten wet when I slipped earlier..."
Emily remembered being caught by the handsome man.
He had rain on him, which must have transferred to her.
"You slipped?" Penelope exclaimed, looking Emily over. "Are you okay? Let me
see!"
As Penelope worried, there was a knock on the office door. Emily, facing away, didn't see who it was but recognized the familiar voice.
What do you think?
