Chapter 45
Analise glanced around as the starship was about to take off.
"They're on the adjacent starship," Scott replied.noveldrama
He found the people Jay had arranged and followed them toward the rear of the starship.
"Finlay, your job is to take the starship and leave. Once you've confirmed they're no longer following you, you can return," Scott said.
After quickly changing clothes, Scott and Analise prepared to follow the other crew members onto the other starship.
Finlay nodded. "Got it. Scott, make sure to keep Analise safe."
When carrying out a mission, he looked especially serious, which made him seem
a little smarter than usual. But of course, it was just an illusion.
Once everything was set, Finlay piloted the starship away from the Ironhorn Alliance.
As Scott and Wayne had predicted, a few starships immediately tailed Finlay.
Once he had completely left Ironhorn Alliance's territory, the pursuing starships turned back. He hovered in the space surrounding Ironhorn Alliance for a while before leisurely steering the starship back.
Elsewhere in interstellar space, another massive starship sped forward. Inside, most of the therians aboard were males with several tufts of feathers on their heads, and there were only a small number of other species among them.
...
"Ms. Chamber, Admiral Hopkins."
In the city center, Karl was delighted to see Analise again at Jay's house. Even though he knew she wasn't leaving today, he still couldn't shake his worry.
"How's the situation in the city?" Scott asked.
Meanwhile, Analise rested her chin on her hand as she studied Karl.
She found it strange. Males with tails were supposed to have their tails as their secondary sexual characteristic, yet Karl's was a horn instead.
"Ms... Ms. Chamber, why are you staring at me like that?"
Karl's gaze darted around nervously, too shy to meet hers. Analise's stare was so intense that he couldn't handle it.
"It's nothing. Let's get back to business."
Analise looked away, figuring that if she kept staring, Karl would start stuttering even worse.
"Sure."
Karl's expression was grim when he met Scott's gaze. "He's making his move." Everyone in the room knew exactly who "he" was.
"His people are gathering in the city and slowly surrounding the Lordship Estate," Karl said seriously. "But my father and I have deployed our own forces as well. When the time comes, we'll coordinate from inside and out."
"Jay, take the secret tunnel to the Lordship Estate and have Lord Hansen conduct
a thorough search. We suspect the robot female never left. She's probably still inside."
Analise glanced at Jay. Right now, he was the only one fit for the task and the only one they could trust.
"Got it, I'm going now."
Jay quickly opened the hidden door and left.
Once Jay was gone, Karl continued, "My father always said Ironhorn Alliance lacked unity. I used to think it was because of what happened after the Vexoth's invasion that led to the ideological differences between my father and his brother.
"But now I see I was too naive. My father had suspected him all along, but couldn't bring himself to confront his own brother outright. He even gave him a chance to change.
"Just a few days ago, he lured me out, and I nearly died at the hands of the
Vexoths. If Jay hadn't arrived in time..."
Karl let out a bitter chuckle.
Just then, a sharp notification tone rang out.
A bad feeling surged through Karl as he immediately opened his interface to
check.
