Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change?



Rebecca White frowned instantly. Was Francis really waiting at the company just to confront her?

"Ms. White."

Sawyer walked up to her, slightly bowing his head. "Mr. Francis would like you to join him in the car. He has some things to discuss."

Rebecca was puzzled. What more was there to say between them?

But with Sawyer standing in her way, refusing wasn't an option.

She nodded, "Alright."

Crossing the street, she climbed into the car.

Inside, even the driver had stepped out to give them privacy.

Rebecca sat with her back straight, not even glancing at Francis. "What do you want to say? Go ahead."

Francis let out a barely audible chuckle, "You turned me down before, claiming my feelings were just 'admiration by association.' Was that just an excuse?"

Rebecca looked at him, bewildered. "I don't understand. What are you getting at?"

"Don't understand?"

Francis's usually composed face was clouded with something dark.

Rebecca felt a twinge of unease; she'd never seen this side of him before...

"Let me spell it out for you."

Francis turned slightly, half his face cast in shadow, a sharpness to his brow, his lips tight.

"You rejected my feelings because of Eddy, didn't you? What is it? Regret? Planning to get back together with him?"

His voice was calm, yet carried an inexplicable pressure.

Rebecca was stunned, unable to comprehend his train of thought. She shook her head in denial, "I never thought that..."

"Is that so?"

Francis's lips curled faintly, his chest rising and falling slightly. "Then what were you doing earlier? Buying him medicine? Worried about him? Sitting with him in the car?"

So, he knew everything!

He never left; he was following her the whole time?

Rebecca's anger flared up, glaring at him. "Francis, are you following me? What gives you the right?"

"Rebecca White!" Francis's tone was

Rebecca felt a lump in her throat. Why should she explain herself to him?

He wasn't anything to her!

Steeling herself, she lifted her chin defiantly, "That's my business! Mr Johnson, we have no relationship, and you have no right to criticize my life choices!"

She placed her hand on the car door, "Is that all you wanted to say? Because I'm leaving!" "Rebecca White!"

Rebecca almost thought she misheard.

"I said..." Francis repeated, staring her down, "You're not to see Eddy anymore!"

"Ha!" Rebecca couldn't help but scoff, finding the situation almost laughable. "Let go!"

In a fit of frustration, Francis kicked the side of the car. He tried to reason with her, but she wouldn't listen!
