Not Your Doormat Anymore

Chapter 62

When I returned to the office, my secretary was already waiting for me.

Earlier, while we were going through the office work manuals, I had chatted with her a bit.

Her name was Mira Collins, and she graduated from Dynora College with a degree in financial management. Due to her family's financial difficulties, she took a secretary role after graduation to get her foot in the door.

Still, as a recent graduate, she lacked real-world experience.

Mira looked at me nervously. "Mr. Ranford... You're not going to fire me, are you?"

I shook my head. "I don't have any experience either. We'll figure it out together."

I set the project proposal down on the desk, ready to go over our next steps with her. "Our current task is to explain the collaboration details to him and get his agreement so that this project can move forward."

Mira covered her mouth in surprise. "As the general manager, you have to handle this personally? This person must be incredible."

I nodded. "Jason mentioned he's a traditional craft artisan who has mastered a rare embroidery technique that was almost lost to time."

The company was currently working on a clothing line, and using a traditional craft

artisan as a selling point could significantly boost sales.

"Should we go now?" Mira asked, still a bit confused.

I paused for a moment before shaking my head. "Let's try calling first."

The project proposal included the contact information of the traditional craft artisan.

Mira nodded and pulled out her phone to make the call. However, before it could even ring, the call was declined. She tried twice more, but this time, her number was blocked. Her carefully prepared pitch had been rendered pointless.

She glanced at me, and I met her gaze. "What do we do now, Mr. Ranford?"

I rubbed my temples. "I have no idea."

It dawned on me that both of us were too inexperienced for this task. There was no way we could handle it on our own.

Jason seemed to be quite busy, and it was unlikely he'd have the time to help us. After thinking it over, I decided to call Dad. I figured it would be best to humbly ask for his advice on how to handle this situation.

"Did Jason assign this to you?" Dad's tone immediately soured when he heard that.

I confirmed and reiterated what Jason had told me.

Dad let out a sigh before asking a few more questions.

When he found out that my secretary was a fresh graduate and an intern, he went silent for a long time.

"Well... Maybe he thinks you young people can communicate better. Never mind, let that young woman be your assistant for now. I'll have my secretary go over to help. She's highly experienced and capable. Just follow her lead whenever you need guidance."

Over the years, the company had expanded significantly, and Dad had opened several branches. His

secretary was one of his most

trusted and competent employees.

Two years ago, she was assigned to manage one of the branches. Cóntent

Now, in order to help me, Dad was swallowing his pride and asking her to return.

She agreed without hesitation. "No problem. Everything is stable here. I'll book a flight for tomorrow and head over."

Before her arrival, Dad sent me her profile.

At 33 years old, she had already spent ten years working as a secretary. She was married once but got divorced, and she had custody of her son. She had bought a house in Dynora and hired a nanny to take care of her son.

She had no plans to remarry or have more children, so it was likely she would be staying in the company for at least the next three to five years.

"By the time the young woman by your side is fully trained, even if Lindsey resigns, it won't make much of a difference."

After hearing Dad's advice, I quickly agreed to follow through with his plans.noveldrama

When I hung up the phone, Mira seemed a little embarrassed. "Mr. Ranford, promise that as soon as Ms. Harper returns, I'll make sure to learn from her properly! I'll work hard to become proficient in the work as soon as possible!" she said, raising her hand in a gesture of assurance.

I nodded. "Alright, just keep going for now."

Youth certainly had its advantages; she was full of energy and enthusiasm.

I rubbed my nose, suddenly realizing that I wasn't even 30 yet. I had been so absorbed in my medical career that I had developed a workaholic mentality.
